Artist’s Note
I visited the Rhododendron Wood with a friend to paint in plein air.
I had to work fast because the sun moved, of course, and the light penetrating the forest changed every minute or so. I chose to paint the light rays first and painted around them. The colours changed too, where the tree trunks changed from an almost black to a variety of colours appropriate for the tree type, which consisted of cedars and other firs. Some deciduous leaves were apparent being bright green.
