Artist’s Note

The Church and Convent of La Concepcion (Iglesia y Convento de la Concepcion) 1755 - 1855; February 15, 2015
Watercolour 14 X 11; sketch and painting en plein air
Construction took 100 years to complete. The bell tower was finished in 1842 by Zeferino Guitierrez, the architect of Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel, the most prominent church in San Miguel.
A plein air subject where the object was to paint a small part of the church from a courtyard.
Due to the ever-changing light and therefore shadows one has to work fast. I always prefer to sketch the view first and even sometimes add colour to quickly achieve the correct balance for a period of time
The yellow wall is very bright with a dark red background across the street, Hernadez Macias

This sketch was very helpful, in part because it was very windy and I had to have some background in case I had to resort to finishing this in my studio
