Ultramarine Blue and Flowers

Artist’s Note

A still life showing beautiful orange/red flowers in an ultramarine blue vase situated on a table behind which is a window.
The play of reflections and shadows on the vase, and in turn the shadows on
the table are highlighted by the pale light beaming into the space. The reflection/shadow cast by the vase is matched in intensity by the refraction of the stalks within the vase and the ultramarine shadow from the centre of the vase shown on the table. As always I created a small sketch first which I used as a basis for the proportions of the elements, tonal differences and composition.
