Artist’s Note
The Ponte Vecchio ("Old Bridge", Italian pronunciation: [ˈponte ˈvɛkkjo]) is a Medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewelers, ice cream venders, art dealers and souvenir sellers.
I have visited Florence several times; the first being in 1979. My girlfriend of the time and I were walking across the bridge and she wanted an ice cream,
So, in my best Italian I asked, or so I thought, a young lady standing behind the stall for a gelato - she burst our laughing and said "What'll you have Luv"
